Baltics biggest inline skating event took place today for the 12th time. Last year’s winner Reinis Znotins from Latvia triumphed again in the Tartu Inline Skating Marathon’s 42 km distance. He finished ahead of compatriot Sandis Reinsons and local skater Mart Markus.
Although Znotins tried to get away from the group, the marathon ended again with a big group finish where Znotins beat Reinsons and Markus. Znotins finished the marathon with a time of 1:09.10,23.
„I tried to get away from others, but the group was so much faster on the descents. When they caught me, I knew it was going to be a group finish, so I started to prepare for it early. Group finish is usually a big lottery, where anything can happen, but this time it went well,” said Znotins after the race.
Among women Estonia’s Olympic speed skater Saskia Alusalu won her first Tartu Inline Skating Marathon. Alusalu finished 17 seconds ahead of Kristiine Kalev (EST), Russian Julia Barakova won the third place (+0.18).
In total of 932 skaters registered for today's races. 440 of them skated the long 42 km distance, 316 skated the half marathon and 176 skated the shortest 10 km distance.
Before the main races the Tartu Inline Skating Marathon’s children’s events took place. According to the preliminary results, a total of 347 children took part in it.
The next event in the Cube series is the 21th Tartu Rattamaraton (MTB marathon), which takes place on September 16th.
