According to the preliminary data, 1170 runners took part in the entertaining running event of Friday Night Run, which got its start from the Town Hall Square.
Participants got to run the distance of 4 kilometers with timing and also without it. The event kicked off at 20pm with the concert of NOËP, at 21pm gave artist start to the run.
The amount of participants was a positive surprise to the organizers. „The number of runners was awesome and it seemed like everybody was having fun. If two weeks ago 1000 participants seemed like a too optimistic forecast, then Friday’s nearly 1200 runners give us hope that next year we can think about the number of 2000,“ said race director Indrek Kelk.
One of the purposes of the event was to call attention to the safety while running or walking on the dark streets. For that reason, every runner got a slap wrap reflector.
Friday Night Run also opened the programme of the 6th Tartu City Marathon, which continues on Saturday with the main distances (42, 21 and 10 km) and children’s events. In total of over 6000 smaller and bigger running lovers are expected to take part in the coming events.
