The pre-event of the 20th Tartu MTB Marathon, 2nd Tartu MTB Marathon Relay, was won by a team named Pro Klubi A-Team. Winning time on a classical 89 km Otepää-Elva course was 2.48.24.
To the first exchange in Pringi at the 29 km mark, two teams (Pro Klubi A-Team and Team Amps) came together. But on the second stage A-Team’s Taavi Kannimäe got more than a two minute lead over Team Amps’s Tarmo Neemela. A-Team’s final man Robi Niit held the lead basically the same. Second place went to Team Amps and third spot to Amps Team.
„We knew that both of the Amps’ teams are very strong. But we are a consistent team – Viljar Kannimäe on the first leg stayed with Amps’s man and Taavi on the second stage was really good – he got a huge lead,“ said Niit, the anchor man of the winning team. „It was a good opportunity to get to know the course before next Sunday’s main marathon,“ he added.
In total 33 teams took part of the 2nd Tartu MTB Marathon Relay. The third biggest MTB marathon in the World, 20th Tartu Rattamaraton will be held in South-Estonia in September 24th. A day before, September 23rd, the children´s bike races of the MTB marathon to be held in the Estonian historical University town Tartu will open the European Week of Sport 2017.
