The Tartu Inline Skating Marathon, which ended yesterday with some exciting final efforts, brought together over a thousand inline skaters from 10 countries.

Latvian Reinis Znotins took home the gold from the 11th Tartu Inline Skating Marathon. He was followed by Estonians Mart Markus and Marten Liiv in an intense group finish. Once again the fastest one in women´s category was Enel Kõrva who is the most successful competitor in the Tartu Inline Skating Marathon´s history: she won the event for the fourth time. She was followed by Russians Jevgenia Radionik and Julia Barakova who finished in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

All together 838 inline skating enthusiasts took part in yesterday´s main events. 423 of them covered the long, 42 km distance while 253 competed in half marathon and 162 in the shortest, 10 km race.

The 7th Tartu Inline Skating Sprint, which was held on Saturday saw 48 sprinters competing. As the race was stopped due to rainfall then the finishing protocol was assembled based on the qualification run. Latvian Roberts Pundurs won this event, second and third place were taken by Mart Markus and Marten Liiv, respectively. The fastest sprinter in women´s category was Enel Kõrva.

If we add 375 participants in kids´ races and 90 people who took part in the official training on 10th of August, we get that in total 1351 skating enthusiasts participated in the 11th Tartu Inline Skating Marathon. "In general I am very satisfied with the event, because the biggest enemy of the roller skates, namely, rain was absent on the marathon day. And in the eleven years in which the race has been held, it has never rained during the main event – such an amazing streak continued!" said the director of competition, Indrek Kelk.

Interesting turns of events in the Cube series

After four sub-competitions of the Tartu Maraton Cube the leader spot is held in men´s category by Juri Širokov with 3951 points. Širokov is followed by Tiit Orlovski with 3896 points and Hannes Veide with 3824 points.
Skating marathon made things more intriguing in women´s category however: the leader spot has been taken by Kärt Hüva, who is only 14 years old. Hüva, who has competed in all stages of this season has collected 2593 points. She is followed by Mare Ulp (2545) and former leader Eike Laidver (2544) who did not take part in the Inline Skating Marathon. "It is a really big surprise for me! In the beginning of the year I didn´t set myself any particular goals regarding a finishing spot, I just wanted to participate in all the marathons. I will definitely try to hold on to the first place for as long as possible!" commented Hüva. For every competitor up to four best results of the season will be accounted for in the Cube series.

The next Cube event is the 20th Tartu MTB Marathon which is held on 24th of September. There is a choice between 89, 40 and 21 km distances.
