Over 10 000 people took part in the 35th Tartu Jooksumaraton

Tartu Jooksumaraton is the biggest cross-country running event in the Baltics. This year a record breaking 10 205 sports enthusiasts took part in the different events of the 35th Tartu Jooksumaraton.
Official programme of the 35th Tartu Jooksumaraton begun on the 24th of April with the official training where a total of 260 runners and nordic walkers took part. On the 5th of May traditional Charity Run took place. This year the aim was to collect money for a 3-year old little Mihhail who is diagnosed with Michel aplasia and needs help with the costs of his treatment travels. And with a total of 2420 participants and 16 387 euros the mission was accomplished.
A day later, on the 6th of May the traditional children’s events were held in Tähtvere Sportspark, Tartu. A total of 3940 children ran in different distances on Saturday. On Sunday, an extra 349 children took part of the children’s events in Otepää and Elva which means that a total of 4289 children participated in the 35th Tartu Jooksumaraton’s children’s events.
On Sunday it was time for the main distances (23, 10 and 5 km). Kenya’s Ibrahim Mukunga Wachira won the 23 km race for the third time in a row, Olga Andrejeva was the fastest woman. Overall a total of 3262 runners and nordic walkers took part of the main events.
Next event in the Tartu Maraton Cube series is 36th Tartu Rattaralli, which will be held on the 28th of May. Read more here.
