Biggest cross-country running event in the Baltics - 34th Tartu Jooksumaraton – will have a significant change in the 23km course this year. Last part of the course will now be 100% identical with the legendary Tartu Ski Maraton course.
The course will also be 120 meters shorter but the difference is most notabel in the change of course surface. Section from the 16th to 20th kilometer will be changed. Previously this part was along a gravel road but this year it will be on the Tartu Ski Marathon course which also means that the surface will be forest track. This is softer and more enjoyable for running.
„Previously the course of Tartu Jooksumaraton was mostly along gravel roads but this year forest tracks are overwhelming. The race is more like a real cross country running event now,“ said race director Indrek Kelk.
Previous years the surface on the section in question was thought to be too soft and muddy during the beginning of May but thanks to course works during autumn the course will be harder and drier in this section and thus favorable for running.
„It’s a great change mostly for two reasons. Firstly, our participants have said that they prefer to run on softer forest track rather than on a gravel roads. And secondly, because of this change we have managed to connect our running course even more with the legendary Tartu Maraton course,“ added Kelk.
34th Tartu Jooksumaraton will take place on the international Mother’s Day, 8th of May. 23km and 10km distances are available for both runners and nordic walkers.
