The biggest road race in Eastern Europe, Tartu Rattaralli, took place on Sunday. Just 17 years old Gleb Karpenko (EST) won the main distance (124 km) with a time of 2:45.12. Second place went to Kristjan Oolo (EST, +0.07) and third to Markus Pajur (EST, +0.08).
On the race’s 50 km mark 11 men were in the breakaway group, which included many cyclists who participated in this week’s Tour of Estonia. Their lead over the peloton was 38 seconds. Some kilometers later 5 men joined them, including Tour of Estonia’s winner Mihkel Räim (Israel Cycling Academy).
A couple of kilometers before the end, 17 years of age Gleb Karpenko managed to get away from the others and won his first Tartu Rattaralli (Tartu Road Race in English).
Among women, Estonian Kelly Kalm won the event for the second year in a row, finishing with a time of 2:49.01. She finished in 44th place overall.
A total of 3925 riders registered for the 38th Tartu Rattaralli – 2172 for the shorter, 56 km race and 1753 for the longer, 124 km distance.
The Tartu Maraton Cube’s series will continue on the 25th of August with the 13th Tartu Rulluisumaraton (inline skating marathon).
