VIDEO: The centenary year surprises with a new track at Tartu Road Race
The 37th Tartu Road Race, taking place on the 27th of May, is dedicated to Estonia’s centenary. Eastern Europe’s biggest road cycling race offers 135 km and 56 km distances on the magical South-Estonian roads.
Different parts of this year’s 135 km course have been in use over the years, but it is the first time that the Tartu Road Race takes place on a route like THIS (check out the schemes!). „The 135 km track is probably the hilliest course in Tartu Road Race’s history, but it definitely isn’t the hardest – little climbs alternate with quite long descends,“ said Race Director Indrek Kelk.
Shorter, 56 km distance mostly overlaps with the 135 km course, but the midsection (Nõo-Kambja) is used in Tartu Road Race for the very first time. „Few years back the Nõo-Kambja section got covered with asphalt and overall it is a very beautiful up and down, left to right section,“ said Kelk.
The 37th Tartu Road Race is part of the Estonia 100 sports programme. During the centenary year, Eastern Europe’s biggest road cycling race is greater than ever. All people taking part in the race will receive a special edition medal, as well as start number and diplomas with the Estonia 100 design.
