Tanel Kangert, member of Astana Pro Team, who fell in Giro d´Italia this spring and injured his arm seriously, will take part in the 20th Tartu Rattamaraton to be held on the 24th of September. This is his first race after the accident.
Kangert, who is the winner of Tartu MTB Marathon in 2010 and 2011, will obviously not go for the 1st place this time. „People ask me every day about my arm. Most honest answer would be, that it becomes better every day,“ says Kangert. „As the matter of fact, looking at the arm right now, it is not possible to understand, how much metal I have in there. The strength of the muscles is coming back,“ he describes the current situation.
30-year old cyclists still has the strong passion to compete and he is excited about making the comeback. „I wonder, do I belong among those sportsmen, who have to back off because of an injury and then, after a while, come back stronger than ever? In theory this model could also work for me,“ he says. „Although I am a little bit afraid, that the missed time has also taken the level down a bit, I also feel, this is a challenge, which inspires me more,“ he adds.
The third biggest MTB marathon in the World, 20th Tartu Rattamaraton will be held in South-Estonia in September 24th. A day before, September 23rd, the children´s bike races of the MTB marathon to be held in the Estonian historical University town Tartu will open the European Week of Sport 2017.
