As expected, Kenyan Ibrahim Mukunga Wachira, who lives in Estonia, took the victory of the 35th Tartu Jooksumaraton. Among women Olga Andrejeva was the fastest.

The advantage ground of the second and third places, accordingly of Roman Fosti and Raido Mitt, was great – Estonian men were defeated by Kenyan with the loss of more than 4 minutes. Among other things, Wachira set a new course record with the time of 1.13.23. With running in the socks! „I ran in the socks because I gave my running shoes to someone to hold and could not get them back in the right time. It was pretty difficult at the start, especially on the asphalt, but on the landscape it was quite good to run and in the end I was used to it," said Wachira.

One of Estonia's best long distance runners Roman Fosti, who has previously won Tartu Jooksumaraton twice and today finished with the time of 1.17.42, took today's race as a preparation for Göteborg's half marathon, which will be held on May 20th. "It was enjoyable! A lot of cat-and-mouse game was going on – the speed was taken up on the downhill. It was a fair competition," summarized Fosti.

Mitt, who finished third, lost to Fosti only with 6 seconds. "It is too early to think about defeating Roman. But in general, it was a nice run and I am very pleased with it," said Mitt.

In the women's competition the first one who crossed the finish line was Olga Andrejeva with the time of 1.29.39, which is also the new course record – she was nearly 2 minutes faster than last year's winning time of Kaisa Kukk. In the general classification Andrejeva managed to get the 36th place. "As I was a little sickly last week, I was very hesitant at the start. However, the race today was surprisingly good and although I felt tired in the end, fortunately my success was really big. It is unbelievable that I managed to run the course record, because I really did not know in which tempo I was running," said Andrejeva. Among women last year's winner Kukk finished in the second place with the time of 1.31.00. In the third place finished Moonika Pilli with the loss of 9 seconds to Kukk.

In total of 3262 runners and Nordic walkers took part of today's event. 1623 of them chose the longest distance of 23 kilometers, 1474 participated in the distance of 10 kilometers and the shortest distance of 5 kilometers gained 165 participants.

The next stage of the Tartu Maraton's Cube series is the 36th Tartu Rattaralli, which will be held on May 28th.
