According to the preliminary data, a total of 985 young skiers gathered in the Tartu Tähtvere Sports Park today, on Saturday, 25th of February.
Due to this year's rather poor snow conditions the organizers had to shorten the distances of children's races just before the events. Hence the longest distance was a course of 1,4 kilometers. Despite that, Friday's heavy snowfall brought together nearly one thousand children, who enjoyed an unexpected return of winter weather.
Club Tartu Maraton's project manager Oliver Kivimäe said that it was a good winter weather today. "Looking at this year's winter, nearly one thousand children, which is more than last year, is surely a decent number. The weather supported us today. Hopefully it will continue to do that," he said.
This year, the AHHAA Science Theatre's exciting experiments enthused children along the course. "The additional program by AHHAA in children's events is certainly very positive. I can't wait, what they will do in next events," said Kivimäe.
In TILLUraces (up to 8 years old) 721 children participated, the number of participants in MINImarathon (9 years and older) was 264. The next stage of Tartu Maraton Cube and Tartu Maraton Mini Cube sports series takes place at the beginning of May with the 35th Tartu Jooksumaraton.
The main races of the 44th Tartu Maraton will continue tomorrow morning, on 26th of February at Tehvandi with 16 and 34 km distances. The day will start with elite group's race and there will also be two amateur races.
