Over 3000 children enjoyed today a great running weather in Tartu
Today, on the 1st of October, the 5th Tartu City Marathon children’s event took place. According to the preliminary results 3026 children participated. Children could choose from TILLUraces (400 and 600 meters) and MINImarathon (1 kilometer). In the first races, 2118 small runners participated, 908 young runners finished the MINImarathon.
“The weather was superb and all participants did a very good job,” said Kunnar Karu, the project manager of the 5th Tartu City Marathon. “Especially good were the ones who ran on the course on their own, without any help from their parents or older sister-brother. It was like a real sports competition - participants were on the course and the parents were cheering next to the track or at the finish. This way, children get a real feeling and courage to participate in a big sports event. But absolutely all children were winners today and were really good.”
This year, the courses and the race center were in new locations. The children's race center was behind the Tartu City Library, on Magistri street parking lot. The start was given on Gildi street and the finish was on Vabaduse street, right before the Town Hall Square.
“The courses’ and race center’s new locations were justified,” said Karu. “This gave much more additional space and still children could run in the heart of Tartu and by the city symbols, for example - main building of the University of Tartu, Jaani church, Rüütli street, and also finish right next to the Emajõgi river.”
“As we want to provide even better conditions in the start corridors, I can’t exclude that next year, we will have more updates on the courses,” added Karu.
The 5th Tartu City Marathon children’s races were the final stage of the Tartu Maraton Mini Cube children’s sport series. All children, who participated in at least four events out of six this year, finished the series and are welcome to a season end party on October 9th and also pick up their special gift.
Together with the children’s races, the marathon, half-marathon and 10K distances were held today.
