The start of the 10th Tartu Inline Skating Marathon will be given this week. Professional skaters from Estonia and abroad are going to compete to ascertain the best of the best. Who is going to win? It becomes evident on Sunday.
Kert Keskpaik, who won last year’s marathon and Marten Liiv, who got the second place, are both coming to compete this year as well. This year’s newcomer is reigning world champion Venezuelan Sebastian Paredes Tigreros.
“I think that the victory is my main goal, I always want to win” said Tigreros. He does not underestimate other participants and takes preparations for the competitions seriously. Tigreros, who just turned 20-years old, is a member of Uus Maa Team, where Marten Liiv also rides.
Liiv said that the roles in the team have not made yet – they will decide and divide the tasks on Sunday, right before the race. Liiv is ready to help his teammate to win the overall title. “Would be nice to see a team member of Uus Maa Team standing on the highest step of the winners’ rostrum,” said Liiv.
Three time Tartu Inline Skating Marathon’s winner Kert Keskpaik said that his main goal this year is to contend for the victory. The main competitor for him is Venezuelan Tigreros. They competed with each other last weekend, when International Jurmala roller skating marathon took place. Tigreros got the 4th place and Keskpaik 7th, the difference between finishing times was 13 seconds.
In the women’s class, last year’s top three - Marina Zujeva, Saskia Alusalu and Enel Kõrva will also show up to make their best performances.
Saskia Alusalu, who is currently traning in The Netherlands, said that her main priority is to prepare herself to speed skating season. “My goal for Tartu Marathon is to do a hard training, give my best and get good emotions,” said Alusalu.
Enel Kõrva, who has competed in all the nine previous Tartu Inline Skating Marathons and has shown good results, sets her main goal to do a pleasant race with pleasant companions. She said that getting a high place is just a bonus. “All of the women are competing with each other and the strongest one wins – I hope that this time she is going to be Estonian,” said Kõrva.
6th Tartu Inline Skating Sprint and children’s races are going to take place on Saturday, August 20th. 10th Tartu Inline Skating Marathon is happening on Sunday, when supposedly over 1000 skaters are going to compete with each other. Come and be part of the jubilee marathon!
