Organizers decided today that because of very bad weather conditions the 5th Tartu Relay Marathon and Open Track which were scheduled to take place this Sunday (14th of February) are cancelled.
Pre-events were planned to take place on a 2,6km artificial snow lap at Otepää, Tehvandi but last couple of days have only given more rain and warm weather and the course at Otepää is not in safe enough condition.
„If next days are too warm, we wouldn’t be able to repair the course. If we get cold weather, the course will be too icy and dangerous. We have no chance at the moment,“ said race director Indrek Kelk.
Organizers planned to make the 2,6km course easier by cutting away one fast and dangerous corner but for that they would have needed to make an additional 250m of course. But the conditions where too wet and surface too soft for course works.
All the participants who registered for the pre-events and already paid their entry fee can transfer 50% of fee to the next years Tartu Maraton or for some other Tartu Maraton Cube event that takes place in 2016. Or they can ask back their 50% of the entry fee.
Additional info will be given directly to the participants.
44th Tartu Maraton main events should take place on the 21st of February but the final decision will be given on the 15th of February.
