Tartu welcomed almost 3000 young bikers
Today, on September 19th, in the Tartu Tähtvere Sports park, the 18th Tartu Rattamaraton MTB children’s races took place with almost 3000 participants. According to the preliminary results, 2883 children participated.
TILLUraces, meant for children up to 8 years old with three distances to choose from - 400, 700 meters and 1 km, welcomed 2060 children. MINImarathon, for older than 8 years old with 5,1 km long distance, had altogether 823 participants.
“Every year, we are so glad to welcome so many participants in the MTB children’s event,” said Indrek Kelk, the race director of the 18th Tartu Rattamaraton. “It shows, children are doing sports and enjoying it. Also, it clearly shows - the future of MTB is bright. Also, to confirm our exceptionality I have a very good example from today, when I walked around the event with a Swiss tour operator who has been in so many marathons worldwide. His sincere surprise when he saw so many children with their parents at the event, even a 1,5 year old biking along the course, made me really feel - Estonians are a sporty nation.”
The 18th Tartu Rattamaraton children's event was the penultimate stage for the yearly sports series specially meant for children - Tartu Maraton’s Mini Cube. From this year, the children's sports series carries a new name - Tartu Maraton's Mini Cube, instead of the old name Tartu Mini Complex Event, and all six events are included in the series: Tartu Skiing Marathon's, Tartu Jooksumaraton's (running), Tartu Rattaralli's (cycling), Tartu Inline Skating Marathon's, Tartu Rattamaraton's (MTB) and Tartu City Run's children's event. To complete the series, children have to participate in at least four events.
The next and ultimate stage of the series take place already in two weeks when the 4th Tartu City Marathon takes place.
Tomorrow, on September 20th, the main races of the 18th Tartu Rattamaraton will be held on the beautiful South Estonia forest roads.
