Almost 10 000 people took part in the 33rd Tartu Jooksumaraton!
33rd Tartu Jooksumaraton is about be one of the biggest running competitions in Estonia with the magical 10 000 participant number already very close. A total of 9637 people took part this year which is a new participation record.
„33rd Tartu Jooksumaraton had something for eveyone,“ said race director Kunnar Karu. „Individual result isn’t always the most important thing. For many its most important that you can come with a whole family and eveyone can do something – starting from 1-2 year old children in the TILLUjooks and finally grandmothers over 80 who a running or nordic-walking alongside their children and grandchildren in the main distances“.
Ibrahim Wachira Mukunga from Kenya won the 33rd Tartu Jooksumaraton beating local favorite and previous two-time winner Roman Fosti. With a time of 1:13.23 Mukunga was unbeatable for Fosti who managed to run a new Estonians best time 1:14.54. Kaupo Sasmin from Estonia was third.
Liina Luik was the best women with a time of 1:29.07. Kaisa Kukk was second and Anu Teppo third. Ivar Ivanov and Tatjana Mannima claimed the leader jerseys in the Tartu Maraton Cube consideration.
Biggest record braker were Saturdays events where Childrens’ events and Charity Run took place in the Tähtvere Recreational Centre. A total of 4193 children and 1151 charity-runners participated.
23km and 10km distances on Sunday gathered 3930 runners and nordic-walkers.
„We are aiming to improve our program and choice of distances even more. Maybe than we can reach the magical 10 000 mark next year,“ said Karu.
Next event in the Tartu Maraton Cube series is 34th Tartu Rattaralli (road cycling race) on the 31st of May. Tour of Estonia is on the 29th and 30th of May.
