Up to 6000 runners in Tartu on this Saturday
On this Saturday, May 9, the 33rd Tartu Jooksumaraton’s opening events take place in Tähtvere Sports Park - the children’s races and the Charity Run. Altogether up to 6000 runners and walkers are expected to take part in these events.
Last year, 4023 children participated in the children’s event and 1073 benefactors took part in the Charity Run. This year, organizers are ready to welcome even more participants.
“This time, the Tähtvere Sports Park welcomes the record number of young runners – the Tartu Jooksumaraton’s children’s races are the most popular ones among the Tartu Maraton Mini Cube event series”, said Kunnar Karu, the director of the 33rd Tartu Jooksumaraton. „During this week, the sports park’s team will do some more preparations to make sure the courses are ready for the runners on Saturday. The weather forecast is also positive, so most probably we will have an amazing day!“
Children in any ages are welcome to participate. There are many different distances available - TILLUraces have 400 and 850 meters long distances, MINImarathon is 2 km long. The first starts are given at 11:00.
Participation is free of charge but registration is obligatory. Pre-registration is open online from Monday, May 4, until Thursday, May 7, 17:00 (Estonian time). Registration is also open on spot at the day of the event.
Charity Run is 4.3 km long and all runners or walkers in any age are welcome to participate. Each participant of the Charity Run is welcome to donate at least 1 EUR. For every runner pharmaceutical company TEVA donates extra 5 euros. The start is at 12:00.
The events held on Saturday are a warm-up for Sunday when the 33rd Tartu Jooksumaraton with 10 and 23 km distances take place. Over 4000 sports friends are expected to join the event in the forests of Otepää and Elvantent after pressing the Edit button above.
