Four-time world champion Eldar Rönning will compete in Tartu Maraton
This years biggest name in Tartu Maraton will propably be the four-time world champion Eldar Rönning who has also triumphed in Otepää World Cup race two times.
„I decided to participate after I did not qualify for Falun World Championships squad after a bad season because of a virus I got in the start of November,“ said Eldar Rönning. „I have good memories form Estonia and I really like the spectators here“.
Rönning has never competed in Tartu Maraton before but won in Estonia two times during the Otepää World Cup – in 2008 and in 2011.
„I have heared from many Norwegian athletes that its a good race with many spectators and a nice track,“ Rönning added. „I haven’t decide the tactic yet, but I will try the track on Saturday“.
Rönning has a total of 11 World Cup race wins and 4 world championship titles form 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013. All of them form the relay race. In Worldloppet races Rönnings’ best result is from Birkebeinerrennet in 2013 when he was second.
Rönning is the favorite for the win on Sunday. His biggest competitors would propably be Algo Kärp (EST), Anders Myrland (NOR), Martin Hammer (NOR) and Aleksey Ivanov (BLR).
Start for the 43rd Tartu Maraton will be given on the 15th of February.
