Despite the fact that most of Estonia is struggeling with the white wintery scene, South of Estonia has no problems with it. According to the chief of course Assar Kütt 70% of the track is ready for Tartu Maraton even today.
"From Otepää to Palu the course is very good and has plenty of snow," said Kütt. Palu is in the thee quarter point of Tartu Maraton - 47km out of 63km has been skied at that point. "From there on the course is a bit icy but covered with fresh snow. Basis of the course is great there but we still need a bit more snow for the last quarter of the course to have the track 100% ready".
Even in the worst case scenorio with the last 15km not being ready for the race in time Tartu Maraton will still take place, the track can also be shortened. But the weather forecast is promising great weather for the next few weeks.
"If we check the forecast and consider current conditions on track, we can be very positive," said Tartu Maraton race director Indrek Kelk. "Today I can say that there is no doubt that Tartu Maraton will take place in three weeks".
Start for the 43rd Tartu Maraton willbe given on the 15th of February. Week before that, on the 8th of February, 4th Tartu Relay Marathon will take place and Open Course races in three different distances (63km, 31km, 16km).
