Tartu MTB marathon’s children’s races brought together a record number of participants

Today, the SEB 17th Tartu Rattamaraton’s children’s races took place in Tartu Tähtvere Sports Park. Altogether 2879 children took part. The event was the last stage of the Tartu Mini Complex Event.

“It was powerful,” said the race director of the SEB 17th Tartu Rattamaraton Indrek Kelk. “Today, an emotion I’ve had many times before during our other children’s races, overwhelmed me. If there’s anything to be proud of, it is Club Tartu Maraton’s children’s events. All those 3000 children who came here today, had this special spark in their eyes and joy in their hearts that made me really proud and assured me that this is something to work for.”

2078 up to 8 years old children took part in the TILLUraces. Older children - 801 participants - took part in MINImarathon races. Last year, there were altogether 2720 children who took part in the same children’ races.

“It’s really fun, so many children came,” said Estonian MTB biker Caspar Austa who came with his 6 years old son Joonatan. “Tartu Mini Complex events are really noteworthy. There are not so many similar mass sports events for children. Starting with other children and medal, ice-cream waiting in the finish are definitely motivating for kids.”

Joonatan himself explained the reason of participation very simply: “It gives me strength!”. In addition, he collects medals which he has already more than his elite biker dad.

In addition to the Tartu MTB marathon’s children’s races, the skiing Tartu Maraton’s, cycling Tartu Rattaralli and running Tartu Jooksumaraton’s children’s races are part of the Tartu Mini Complex Event. This season’s Club Tartu Maraton last children’s event will be held on October 4th with the 3rd Tartu City Marathon’s children’s running races.

Tomorrow, on September 21st, the SEB 17th Tartu Rattamaraton’s main races will be held.
