16th of January 1960 - 214 skiers started in Tartu for the very first Tartu Maraton. They passed through Otepää and finished in Kääriku. This was the beginning of the most known sport event in Estonia. Over the years a total of 172 284 skiers have participated in Tartu Maraton events. On the 16th of January 2015 Tartu Maraton celebrates its 55th anniversary.
Anniversary events involve an historical ski race, a retro marathon, retro party and race for children.

9.00 Celebration of Tartu Maraton 55. jubilee at the Tartu Town Hall Square. Greetings from Urmas Klaas, the mayor of Tartu, and memories of the first Tartu Marathon participant.
9.30 Tartu-Uhti hike 15km starting from club Atlantis. The event celebrates 55th year since the first marathon was held.
Saturday, January 17th 201516.00 Tartu Marathon 55. jubilee Retro Ski Race 6,5km Tehvandi-Servamägi-Tehvandi. Retro Ski Race is unique because of its old-fashioned costumes and wooden skis. There is no need to register.
22.00 Tartu Marathon „After-ski parti“ in Kääriku Sports Centre. Performing band "Regatt".

10.30-11.30 FIS World Snow Day children ski races on Tartu Marathons course in Tehvandi. Tartu Marathon children ski race is a fun family event. Races are suitable for all ages and it is not a competition. The distances vary from 300m to 3km.
