World Snow Day officially opened the program of 41. Tartu Maraton
There’s less than a month left until the 41st Tartu Maraton and the first Tartu Maraton events were held during past weekend. On 21st and 22nd of January, at the same time with international FIS Cross Country World Cup in Otepää, different events were organised by the Club Tartu Maraton nearby for the spectators and general public.
On Saturday, 21st of January, after the sprint finals, almost two hundred skiers enjoyed the Official Training of the 41st Tartu Maraton. The condition of the track was excellent and participants enjoyed skiing all together.
On 22nd of January children had a chance to enjoy skiing. With 38 other countries, Estonia, Club Tartu Maraton, celebrated worldwide event “FIS World Snow Day” with Tartu Maraton’s Otepää children races. Next to Tehvandi Stadium Stage, 93 little skiers had fun on the marathon track with the help of Tartu Suusahullud eager skiing trainers. Every little skier got a diploma, chocolate medal and number 1 bib, because every child is a winner!
The idea of the international event organized by the International Ski Federations (FIS) was to promote skiing to general public and give children a chance to discover the magic of the snow! In addition, FIS pays closely attention on educating youth about safety, environment and health issues.
Quite soon other Tartu Maraton events will be held: on the 12th of February the Open Track, Tervis Pluss 11th Tartu Maraton Ladies’ Race and 1. Tartu Teatemaraton (relay) are organized. The main event, the 41. Tartu Maraton will be held a week later on 19th of February and the day before children races are held in Tartu.
