Joergen Brink wins the 41st Tartu Maraton!

Joergen Brink (SWE) was the first to finish the 41st Tartu Maraton that was held on the 19th of February 2012. Brink won with 2:43:21, Daniel Richardsson (SWE) came second with 2:43:22 and the third place went also to Sweden - Jimmie Johnsson finished with 2:43:23. Best Estonian was Algo Kärp who finished with 2:45:57 (position 24). The first woman crossing the finish line was Susanne Nystroem (SWE) with 3:06:27.

“Altough I felt quite strong at the finish corridor, I realized that I had won after crossing the finish line!” Told Brink and added: “Tartu Maraton added confidence in me and it was a great experience.”

Richardsson felt positive about the race: “Although it was a little bit tough in the beginning I think the race went pretty well! I felt tired at the beginning, but the last 10 kilometres were a little better. Tartu Maraton gave positive emotions to me!” added Richardsson.

Johnsson felt strong today: „I felt strong during the whole race. When it was few kilometres left I tried to push as hard I could to get a little gap, but on the last kilometres these two guys pushed together to kill the gap. It was the third place today and I’m very satisfied with that.”

Algo Kärp (EST) felt good today: „The feeling was good, but after Palu my energy supplies were not enough. I hoped to be with the leaders till the end, but it didn’t happen today”.

Susanne Nystroem, the first woman to cross the finish line, told that it was hard for her today: I had to struggle a lot in the beginning, but in the end I felt pretty strong. It was hard on the track, but other than that it was good.” It was the first time for her to take part in Tartu Maraton.

Kunnar Karu, the Project Manager of the 41st Tartu Maraton said that the wind has given extra work to organisers: “We have worked really hard to keep things from flying in the start, on the course and in the finish. We have given our best so far and we will continue working so that all the participants of the 41st Tartu Maraton can enjoy the marathon fully! We wish good luck to all on the track and hope to see them with smiles on their faces.”

The 41st Tartu Maraton has brought great emotions and the ski festival continues!
